Concealed Carry Instructor
Colorado Concealed Handgun Training Law (CRS 18-12-202.5)
Effective July 1, 2025, CRS 18-12-202.5 sets strict statewide standards for concealed handgun permit training in Colorado. All applicants must complete:
At least 8 hours of in-person instruction
Live-fire shooting exercises
A written exam covering firearm safety, legal responsibilities, and self-defense laws
Training must be conducted by a verified instructor approved by the local sheriff. Online-only courses no longer qualify. This law ensures consistent, accountable, and hands-on training for responsible concealed carry.
Instructor Bio: Kevin — Verified CCW Instructor
Kevin is a certified and sheriff-verified concealed handgun instructor under Colorado’s CRS 18-12-202.7. With decades of hands-on experience and a deep commitment to safety, Kevin brings a practical, no-nonsense approach to firearms education. His courses meet all state requirements for concealed carry training, including:

A cancer survivor and former business owner, Kevin now dedicates his time to building High Plains CCW Academy into a trusted local resource. His teaching blends real-world scenarios, legal clarity, and personal responsibility—ensuring every student leaves confident, competent, and compliant.

Renewal Course
March 7th, 2026
This class is for renewing your current Concealed Handgun Permit must be current at time of taking this course.
Course is 4 hrs. and includes classroom and live fire. Class will be in Fort Morgan and live fire will be in Sterling
Class will start at 9 am with Live fire after class completed 2 hrs.

Please note: If paying by check at the door, your Certificate of Completion will be held until the check clears, typically within 5 business days.

Renewal Registration
CCW Renewal Course Pre-Registration
If your Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit is approaching expiration, you can pre-register for our upcoming CCW Renewal Course by sending a message with your full name and the expiration date of your current permit.
Don’t let your current CCW expire if it expires you will have to take the full course. Need to be added to the waiting list and it may be 2-3 months before there is a full class so pre register soon
Course Format
Approximately 2 hours of classroom instruction
Followed by live-fire qualification at the range
Both components are completed on the same day
Course Fees
Renewal Course Fee: $60.00
Range Fee: $10.00 per vehicle (Sterling Range)
Scheduling
Courses will be scheduled once a minimum of 10 students have pre-registered. You’ll be notified of available dates once a class is confirmed.
